Bengt Holmström Elected

Nov 18 2008

Congratulations to my Stanford classmate, coauthor and friend, Bengt Holmstrom, who has been elected second vice-president of the Econometric Society (winning against me!). Bengt will become president of the Society in 2011. The election is a high honor in recognition of a career of high accomplishment as an economics researcher, teacher and administrator.

Bengt and I began our careers together as assistant professors at Northwestern University, from where we both move to Yale University to continue our collaboration/competition. At Stanford, we shared a dissertation adviser, Robert Wilson. Working with another Wilson student, Alvin Roth, we edited a volume of research celebrating Wilson’s accomplishments.
